Carol and I were married 34 years. When she passed in 2019 I figured I'd be fine, I had a shop in the garage and a TV. Eight months later I realized I hadn't said more than ten words to another human in a week.
What got me out was embarrassing. My daughter signed me up for a bowling league at Forward Lanes without asking. I went because I was mad at her. I'm still in that league.
I tried the wrong stuff first. Bought a $400 e-bike, rode it twice. Downloaded an app for making friends, deleted it in a day. What worked was showing up to the same places on the same days until people knew my name.
A session with me is a phone call. You tell me what you did this week, I tell you what I did, we pick one thing you'll do before we talk again. That's it.

What I know: being alone after losing a spouse, restarting friendships late in life, joining groups when you'd rather stay home, keeping a routine when nobody's checking on you. I'm good for men over 50 who've gone quiet, retirees, anyone whose social life used to run through their spouse. I am not a counselor and I don't do grief work; if you're in real crisis you need a professional, not a bowling buddy. What I offer is company and a push. Not for: people who want theory, or anybody expecting me to make the calls for them. You do the doing, I do the checking. Availability: mornings Eastern time, never Tuesdays (league night), and I don't do video, phone only, I think better walking around the garage. Between sessions I'll take one text a week with your update. Short is fine. 'Went to the thing' is a complete sentence.
