I sold my first novel in 2016 after eleven years of starting books and abandoning them somewhere around the 60,000-word mark. The second one came out in 2021. In between and around those two are nine corpses on my hard drive, and I can tell you the precise chapter where each one died and why it died there.
The humbling part: my agent dropped me in 2018 when I blew a deadline by fourteen months. I spent that year 'researching.' I was hiding, and everyone knew it but me.
Sessions with me are mostly me asking what scene you're avoiding. Writers always know. Then we make a plan small enough that you can't lie to yourself about it, and you send me pages on Thursday whether they're good or not. Especially when they're not.

What I know cold: novel structure, the middle-of-the-book collapse, revision order, query letters (I have written maybe forty), what agents actually respond to, and how to finish a draft while working full time, because I wrote both my books while teaching high school Spanish in Tucson. I'm good for people with a stalled draft, people on attempt number six of finishing book one, and people who just got dropped or rejected and want a working plan instead of sympathy. I am not for screenwriters, poets, or anyone shopping for a cheerleader. I will read up to 20 pages between sessions if they reach me by Wednesday night. I don't line edit and I don't ghostwrite. Evenings only, Mountain time, and I vanish the last week of every semester for grading. If you skip two check-ins without a word, I'll ask whether you want to stop, and I'll mean it kindly. One more thing: I keep everything you send me private, including the bad drafts. Especially the bad drafts.
