Denny Kowalski

ten years of staring at the ceiling at 3am, fixed with a paper notebook

$12/hour , set by Denny Kowalski. Your first session with them is free.

For about a decade I was awake most nights at 3am, running QA on my own life. I bought the weighted blanket, the $40 tea, and a $200 tracker that graded my sleep like a disappointed teacher. The tracker made everything worse. In 2021 I returned all of it.

What worked was so dull I almost didn't notice it working. Same wake time seven days a week, including the morning after my brother's wedding. A paper notebook. One firm rule about my phone. Fourteen months of that, and I stopped dreading nighttime.

Sessions with me are not exciting, and I say that with pride. We look at your notebook, we pick one boring change, and we agree you will not add anything else for two weeks. People hate that part. Then it works, and they hate it less. If something medical is going on, that's a doctor's lane, not mine. I'm a QA engineer from Pittsburgh with a notebook habit.

More background

What I actually know: anchoring a wake time, caffeine timing, what to do at 3am besides scrolling, keeping a paper log that takes 90 seconds a day, weaning off sleep gadgets, and evening routines that are boring without feeling like punishment. What I refuse to touch: medication, supplements, apnea, or anything that sounds diagnosable. I'm not a clinician of any kind, and if I hear something that sounds medical I will say the word doctor and keep saying it until you go see one.

Good fit: engineers, analysts, gadget people ready to admit the gadgets didn't work, and anyone willing to be patient, because my stuff takes weeks, not days. Bad fit: anyone shopping for a biohacking stack, an optimization protocol, or results by Friday. Also bad fit if you won't keep the notebook. The notebook is non-negotiable.

Between sessions you photograph one notebook page a week and send it over. I reply with exactly one sentence. Availability: lunchtime Eastern, or evenings ending by 8:30pm sharp, because I'm in bed at 10:15 every night including New Year's Eve. That's not a joke. That's the product.
