Ray Delgado

twenty-five years of Marlboro Reds and I've been quit since 2014

$22/hour , set by Ray Delgado. Your first session with them is free.

I started smoking at 19 in the Army and didn't stop until I was 44. Two packs, more on weekends. I quit six times before it stuck. The worst attempt was 2011, when I made it eleven days and then bummed a cigarette at my brother's cookout and bought a carton on the way home.

What finally worked wasn't willpower. It was getting stupidly specific about the first ten minutes of a craving and having a plan for every single one. I wrote mine on a card I kept in my truck. I still know it by heart.

A session with me is a phone call, mostly. You talk, I ask what happened since last time, and we build your card. I don't lecture. I smoked for 25 years, I got no room to lecture anybody.

More background

What I know cold: the first 72 hours, week-two overconfidence, what to do with your hands, driving triggers, coffee triggers, the bar problem, quitting while your spouse still smokes, and the restart after a slip so one cigarette doesn't turn into a carton. I quit using nicotine gum and tapered off it over about a year, and I'll tell you exactly what I did, but I'm not a doctor and I won't tell you what to take or not take. Anything medical goes to your doctor, period.

Good fit: people who've quit and gone back a few times and are sick of the cycle. Shift workers, tradespeople, veterans, folks over 40. Not a good fit: if you're not sure you want to quit yet, save your money, because I can't want it for you. I don't work with teenagers.

Availability: evenings after 6pm Mountain time and Saturday mornings. I answer texts between sessions, usually same day. Standing rule for my people: if you slip, text me before you buy the pack, not after. That one text has saved more quits than anything I say on our calls.
